Video Inspection on the operating status of a glass production tank

The use of drones has revolutionized the method of performing video inspections of confined spaces, both in the industrial and civil fields.

Aesse Misure was commissioned to inspect a glass production tank: the objective was to check the condition inside the tank following a basket failure.

For the video inspection, a certified operator used a state-of-the-art drone, one of the most advanced and high-performance tools available on the market. Once permission was obtained from the client to proceed with the video inspection, it was decided to launch the drone from the grating just outside the tank.

The drone made multiple flights to dwell on the side walls throughout the length and width of the tank, identifying the actual break in the basket at about 1.37 m.

The interior is very dusty, but the drone's excellent lighting system ensured that everything was perfectly visible. Inside, the poor condition of the basket was immediately apparent.

Video inspection by drone, in addition to being extremely safe - in fact, it prevented technical personnel from having to enter the inside of the tank - thanks to its advanced technical features it makes it possible to survey in a detail that is difficult to obtain otherwise.

Once the tank inspection was completed, the client viewed the images and 3D models of the survey on a big screen with the help of post-processing software.

The drone, remotely piloted by a certified operator, has succeeded in lowering the risks to a technician and eliminating the need for special permits for access to the inspected area, resulting in significant savings in time and enforcement costs. On average, drone inspections are estimated to be twice as efficient as human inspections and 40 percent less expensive per meter of inspection.
